Lunarejo Valley

The Valle del Lunarejo (“Lunarejo Valley”) Protected Landscape is located in the extreme northwest of the department of Rivera, very close to Artigas and Salto and the border with Brazil. It is located in the northern part of the Cuchilla de Haedo system, which serves as a biological corridor for the entry of subtropical species of flora and fauna from southern Brazil into Uruguayan territory. It is a representative area of the Quebradas del Norte or the Cuesta Basáltica, a region that stands out for a landscape of great beauty, with unique scenic elements in the country, characterized by hills with flattened peaks that delimit narrow valleys modeled by the courses of water known as “quebradas”.
